President Bill Clinton Declares Phi Beta Sigma Membership

President William J. Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, declared his Honorary Membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. during Howard University’s commencement speech on Saturday May 11, 2013 in Washington, D.C.

These statements were delivered during his opening remarks, which were warmly received by those in attendance.  Brother Clinton’s words were as follows, “I want to say how great it is for me to be here at Howard, first because in 2009 I was inducted as an Honorary Member of Phi Beta Sigma, which was founded here 99 years ago.”

The theme of Brother Clinton’s speech was  “open hands over closed fists”, which you can watch in full via CBS News.

Just a reminder. I know at least two great Sigmas. One of whom Bro. Clarence Johnson of Upsilon Sigma (Chicago) will be immortalized on the Centennial Monument. The other is Brother E.G. Brown of Iota Alpha and Upsilon Sigma also of Chicago.
These men represent the finest ideals that were expressed by our founding fathers when Phi Beta Sigma was launched January 9, 1914.
